About

Bump Bailey started several years ago as a result of a bunch of San Francisco musicians sharing baseball fellowship in the wee small hours: before shows; after shows; during sound check. I moved to Boston at the end of the 2009 season, and the casual talk over the years about blogging our baseball thoughts became a practical imperative if I were to continue participating in these conversations.

The baseball blog almost invariably emphasizes a personal loyalty to a particular ballclub, and we expect to fulfill this requirement ourselves. Nathan and Ryan are northern California-bred Giants fans. I’ve put my lot in with the Angels’ as part of an Orange County early childhood inheritence, despite several unsatisfying name changes and my own (satisfying) relocations. Greg’s story is the least conventional — a western Pennsylvanian by birth, he moved to San Francisco during Billy Beane’s moneyball zeitgeist and fell in love with the Athletics of Oakland.

No promises, though. We may discuss baseball in general, American folk music, history, or just each other.

Play ball,
